Idaho is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. Alpine mountains with roaring rivers, high deserts and deserted silver mining towns. When my wife and I moved there, we were shocked and in love with its beauty, having only ever associated it with potatoes! Turns out Idahoans tend to not be impressed with the potato association that much (they’d rather be known for other things). But, when we got our license plates transferred, I couldn’t help but pay extra for the “baked potato” plate–I thought, “how many opportunities for that will I ever have?” My wife, along with all of our Idaho friends, rolled her eyes.
We weren’t there long. And when we got back to the Georgia heat, I spent two years trying to figure out what to do with those potato plates. Finally, I re-roofed our back-yard birdhouse with one. And made this with the other. We’ve seen these birdhouses for years. But this is the only one I know of with a potato (with butter)!
The house is 5″ x 5″ x 5″ made from re-claimed pallet wood with a standard-size contemporary Idaho plate and glass drawer pull for a perch.
